Civil War (2024) Review

A journey across a dystopian future America that is currently in a civil war as we follow military journalists wanting to get to the White House to confront the President before the rebel factions.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It is an extremely tense journey as we follow Lee a very well respected war photographer who had certainly seen a lot of bad things during her life and took photos of them as well. One day when out young aspiring photographer Jessie manages to get in with Joel and on the trip they are about to take to DC. Sammy an older journalist also wanted to travel, and even though they let him they subject him to many comments about being old and slow.

That journey across America would show how different areas are coping or not with the war that had broken out. This leads to some extremly tense scenes as a viewer we had no clue what was going to happen next and that is certainly a big positive about how the film was made. The tribal nature of the different areas and how cruel people can be and then even turn on one another.

It really does become very anxiety driven, with Jessie putting a lot more pressure on the group being so new to it all. Quite frankly at times I didn’t really feel like she was worth that hassle, very harsh I know! But overall it was a very interesting take on what might happen if America entered a civil war state!

Seeing Kirsten Dunst back leading a film again was probably one of the highlights for me, as let’s face it we have all followed her career for decades at this point. I thought she was a really interesting character in Lee and this allowed for plenty of good moments and scenes. Working very well with Wagner Moura and Stephen McKinley Henderson managing to create some amusing moments within a horrible world.
