You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah (2023) Review

Stacy and Lydia are BFFs and have been planning amazing Bat Mitzvah’s for many years, however when middle school drama and obviously a popular boy comes between them it is a recipe for disaster!

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really wasn’t expecting anything at all from this film and was therefore left pleasantly surprised when it actually had some good moments, and a nice storyline at the heart of it all about growing up and making some truly bad choices. I mean that is part of becoming a teenager isn’t it? I am sure we all have memories of stupid things we did or said to our best friends during those years.

Stacy is very self centred and everything must be about and around her, that is I guess how most teenage girls behave. When Lydia then makes different choices and is invited into the most popular group she attempts to take Stacy with her but that backfires with some different events that occur!

I would normally avoid any Adam Sandler film now in all honesty, as I just don’t find him funny or entertaining, however I thought he was decent in this one. I mean it probably helped that his actual real life daughters were his on screen daughters but it created some nice scenes.

It is easy to see how this film will be great for teenagers and even pre-teens, especially given the smart phone and social media heavy world that we now live in. Highlighting the issues those things can very quickly and easily cause, this makes me very happy that we at least had to wait until getting home at that age to log into a computer and not carrying it around with you all day. My god, that makes me sound ancient!

The boundaries of friendship are highlighted and as usual with films it shows that wanting to be in the “popular” crowd isn’t all its cracked up to be and everyone is just struggling to survive really! It comes full circle though to make use of the different points and that makes it watchable at the very least.
