The Sweeney (2012) Review

DI Jack Regan is part of the Flying Squad within London’s Metropolitan police force, but his old school style is getting him in trouble and his now being closely watched by internal affairs.

⭐️⭐️

This film is based on the 1970s UK TV Show, and that is something that I have never actually watched but heard a tiny little bit about.

Jack Regan works with D.C George Carter and as they arrive at a scene of a warehouse robbery with four armed men attempting to steal gold bars and after capturing them Regan takes some of the gold bars to give to his informant Harry. His chief inspector Ivan Lewis begins to watch his activities and his unaware of the affair happening between his estranged wife Nancy Lewis and Regan.

The thing is though the film falls short as the stories within it aren’t strong enough to really keep you guessing or fully engaged which a shame really as with the cast it had the potential to be a lot better than it turns out to be.

Ray Winstone taking on the leading role is believable enough as a detective who is potentially working both sides, I mean some of that could be due to his previous tough guy roles. Plan B, actually offers some good support along with Haley Atwell who was impressive. Then with Steven Mackintosh and Damian Lewis having smaller roles, maybe they should have been utilised more?
