Yesterday BAFTA released the longlist of films that are going forward to round 2 of voting for this years awards! I have to admit a couple of surprises I reckon but always really interesting that they release this information.
BEST FILM 15 films go through to the Round Two of voting, and five will be nominated. This is the only category voted for by all film voting members in all voting rounds. 244 films were submitted for consideration.
Da 5 Bloods
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
News of the World
One Night In Miami…
Promising Young Woman
Sound of Metal
The Trial of the Chicago 7
The White Tiger
OUTSTANDING BRITISH FILM 20 films will go through to Round Two of voting. The top five films from the opt-in chapter vote in Round One automatically receive a nomination. The next ranking 15 films will be considered by a jury, who will vote for five nominations. 10 films will be nominated in this category. In Round Three, the general voting membership will select the winner in this category. 74 films were submitted for consideration, all of which passed the BFI Diversity Standards.
In the year 2045 the real world isn’t a place people want to be so they spend most of their time in the OASIS. A virtual reality world where you can be whoever you want and explore the universe collecting coins and items along the way. It’s also a game and a challenge when Halliday the creator died it was announced that whichever user finds the Easter Egg will become the owner of the OASIS and his fortune.
Again this year nine films have been nominated for the top award of Best Picture, always creating good talking points around film as people can often never understand why some were nominated and then go onto win. I think this year is actually pretty strong and a decent range, but I will get more into each individual film.
Let’s have one last look at each of the films that have been nominated . . .
With 400,000 men trapped on Dunkirk during World War II, everything must be done to bring them home. Allied British and French soldiers had to battle to survive against the Germans closing in on them by the hour.
I thought I would put together a new list this year for what I saw in 2016 (here) with the standout male performances of the year, this is going to combine the whole leading and supporting roles. Just what I have been really impressed with!
