Read More »This is my overview of 2017 at the Theatre which has been a very special year with plenty of trips to London and even a trip to New York and squeezing in some Broadway shows. All to go along with the trips to Newcastle’s Theatre Royal and the Sunderland Empire to catch the latest UK touring shows.
In 2016 I managed to see 31 shows. In 2017 I managed to see 36 shows! So just beating the 2016 total! You can see a list of all of these shows here. This also included trying to get plenty of deals and really using the day seats to help save money.

Venue: Theatre Royal, Newcastle
Local lad Joe McElderry also from South Shields has come along way since being crowned The X Factor winner back in 2009, which was the last time I watched the show to be completely honest. The whole town was behind him and it’s amazing to have followed his career since then. His transition to Opera star as well, really showing off his incredible vocals. I have bought each album and enjoyed listening to his fantastic voice. It has also been fantastic to witness his change over to musical theatre and leading as Joseph.
This was the first time I have had the honour of seeing him in concert at the amazing Theatre Royal in Newcastle, which was a complete sell out I want to add. The tour falls into his new album released earlier this month ‘Saturday Night at the Movies’ so a chance to hear him sing all of the songs live.
He has brought some friends along for the show as well though in Keith Jack and Ben James-Ellis who both found fame on Joseph show Any Dream Will Do and have since become seasoned performers. They were also joined by Sam Callaghan a former X Factor contestant who stepped in for the tour for Lloyd Daniels due to illness.

As I have mentioned in the previous posts over the weekend I was totally in team Joe for him to win this year’s x factor because he is from the same town I am from . . . South Shields. I have to admit that I really did find last nights show extremly emotional to watch, we voted at least 10 times in the 24 hours to vote for your winner. It was just brilliant when it was annouced he won!!!
Joe has come along way from his first audition which was so long ago now. Singing Dance with My Father Again, which he also sung last night on the first part of the final show.
Yes, I have been watching the X-Factor for the past 12 weeks or so . . . but I have only kept watching the whole time because Joe McElderry has gotten all the way to the final and will find out if he is the winner of the 2009 X-Factor tomorrow night.
Why do I want Joe to win? – He is from the same town in the North East England which I am from South Shields . . . and him being on the show really has created such a buzz around the town and it is really just fantastic.
Tonight’s first part of the final was very emotional, and yes I was crying . . . a Geordie thing? Possibly?
Joe sung with George Michael, who Joe totally out sung . . .
Bring on the final chapter of his story tomorrow night and lets hope we see him announced the winner of the X-Factor 2009!
