Rest in Peace to legendary actor Sir Ian Holm who has passed away today at the age of 88, he had been battling with Parkinson’s disease but it was announced that it was peaceful with his family around him.
He had an incredible career working in theatre from the Royal Shakespeare Company and starring as King Lear then into the movie world with Alien, Chariots of Fire and my favourite Lord of the Rings. A message was passed from him unable to join the Zoom reunion. Goodby Bilbo Baggins ❤️
Yeah, I knew he had been failing in health for a while and when I saw that he didn’t show up on that Reunited Apart episode w/Josh Gad, I felt something was up.
Gonna miss him!

Lovely man, I have fond memories of listening to his wonderful voice in the BBC’s Lord of the Rings radio serial, when he played Frodo- it was a bit of an ‘in-joke’ to fans that he was cast as Bilbo in the Peter Jackson movies. Listening to a radio serial like that (I think it ran for 26 episodes) you get such a connection to the actors. I hear his voice, its Frodo.
And yes, Ash from Alien: I have re-watched that film so many times over the years, and his performance is always a marvel. The casting was brilliant in that film- everyone so down-to-Earth, gritty and understated and natural, at odds with the fantastic premise and setting. Genius. He was very good in Chariots of Fire too. One of those actors who didn’t draw attention to himself or his performance, he just did the work.
