This is now the sixth time that I have seen this truly wonderful show, four times in the West End and this is the second time I have seen the touring cast. The first being in Newcastle in November 2017, and its great to see how comfortable the cast are in the roles now.
Bronté Barbé taking on the leading role of Carole King as you are taken on a journey throughout her early years and what lead to the writing and recording of Tapestry one of the greatest albums of all time! Along with her partnership and relationship with Gerry Goffin we are also given the great story of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil which really shows the differences in approaches towards marriage but two extremely successful songwriting teams.
Considering how many times I have seen this show in a pretty short period I think that really shows just how much I enjoy and love it. It certainly is one of the feel good musicals, with a couple of heartbreaking moments which is just great from start to finish. The music Carole King was involved in was just outstanding really and something that I was totally impressed with, you will not actually realise how many songs she composed.
Bronté Barbé looks so comfortable in the role putting in a fantastic performance from start to finish. Supported in this performance by Grant McConvey as Gerry Goffin I also saw him on in the Newcastle show as well. They worked very well together. Amy Ellen Richardson in the role of Cynthia has so many different moments where she can steal the show. Matthew Gonsalves is a very impressive Barry and they all work so well together. Carol Royale as Genie Klein her mother certainly gets some fantastic lines as well!
I really do just have a special love for this show and could easily see it many more times. If you haven’t seen this one before it is well worth catching it on the current UK Tour! The current schedule goes up until June 2018, check it out here!
