Today was my final theatre trio of the year to see Mark Rylance starring in the play he co-wrote Nice Fish (review to follow). Afterwards I headed to the stage door and was actually rather surprised that only two other people had decided to wait for him to come out.
It was well and truly worth the wait as soon as he came out he was so grateful that we’d waited so long after the show finished. He had asked us where we were from and I explained that I’d travelled down from Newcastle for the day to see the play and he thanked me for that.
He also asked me what I did so I told him I was a football coach and he asked me who I worked with, and said his niece plays in the US. We also spoke about Bridge of Spies with his character Abel being born in Newcastle. To which he said he did not know until Sting told him! Yes what a great conversation. An incredible actor and such a lovely humble man!
As well as the autograph on the front of the programme (I bought a copy of the play but couldn’t decide which to get signed) I also got an amazing photo 🙂 so thank you Mark Rylance for an early Christmas present!
Ah wow! how amazing!

🙂 one of the nicest of the actor said I’ve met at the stage door was Shaun Williamson who was Barry in Eastenders, top bloke! Didn’t get any photos though.

I love the way he can take the mickey out of himself, particularly in Extras.

I know he kinda became a parody of himself which I think alters perceptions of him.

Made him less of a loser figure.

Great actor. Brilliant in everything but was phenomenal in Bridge of Spies and Wolf Hall.

Bridge of Spies is my favourite film of recent years, I even put a bet on him to win the Oscar haha. I’ve ordered Wolf Hall on Blu Ray on my journey home as somehow missed it!

Fantastic. Wolf Hall is a gritty, darker period drama and Mark Rylance is so subtle and intelligent in the role.

Great photo – one to treasure. Looks and sounds like a real nice man and particularly as he took an interest in what you did and where you came from. Front row again?
Did you have a chance to visit the Christmas market in Leicester Square?
Expect you will be planning your next visit(s) to London for 2017!

This definitely answers questions! It sounds like it was definitely worth while being at the stage door even if you are shy usually 😊 Lovely pic, too!

Thanks! Yeah it was probably my joint favourite experience really to meeting Ian McKellen. Bill Nighy and Carey Mulligan were great too!
