The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as it faces a fearsome race of invaders: orc warriors fleeing their current home which is dying and looking for another.
I will admit my knowledge of Warcraft is well none existent, I had no idea what to expect and in all honesty find myself still a little confused afterwards. We had a lot of characters and different races to get to grips with and I will admit that to begin with I thought I was never going to get who everyone was. Luckily it was not as confusing as I first thought and I did manage to follow along.
The only thing I thought could have helped would have been more back story for the different races. Considering it has a secondary title of the beginning. I am not a gamer and know nothing of Warcraft, well I knew it was a game. But no idea what happens in it, I am therefore curious to know if playing the game would help with the enjoyment of this film? (Please answer below if you can help out with that)
I cannot fault the levels of fantasy and use of CGI to create a fantastic world. That was very impressive. Being a Lord of the Rings geek I could not help but think of Middle Earth and we get the same races in this film. Although not much from the Elves or Dwarves (yet) but the Orcs are much bigger, stronger and cleverer than those in LotR.
I have taken that Orcs have a lot of honour and respect the rules they have, this is key to how parts of the story then unfold. Men seem pretty weak in comparison in trying to fight against the creatures they hardly know anything about. We wait for a huge battle between the Men and Orcs which doesn’t really happen. It was much lower key than I expected in all honesty, still some good and interesting moments though.
Along with all of this we get the Guardian of the realm who appears to have lost his way and not as he first seems. Throw in some demons and huge birds and you have a pretty impressive set up for a fantasy film.
It was massively left open for the next chapter and in all honesty I want some answers for certain things that happened. I am guessing that the plans are in place to grow the franchise and it will go on how big the box office for this film ends up after its release. It offers a new fantasy world and isn’t that one of the genres and film types that really makes going to the cinema fantastic?
