Deadpool (2016) Review

Wade Wilson is a former special forces operative turned mercenary who will pretty much do anything for money, his life is changed when he falls in love with Vanessa but that is short lived when he is diagnosed with terminal cancer. In an attempt to stay alive he agrees to a rouge experiment which doesn’t exactly go to plan and he becomes Deadpool . . .

This is a totally different type of superhero film to what we have been used to from Marvel. In fact it even has digs at all of those other films especially X-Men and well no one is really safe. I guess it is a pretty brave move considering how popular the Marvel Universe is, with that in mind it is at times it is difficult to not expect a similar type of thing.

Ryan Reynolds is probably the best person to take on this role as he really does have the overtaking and attitude perfect for the role. Don’t forget he has had a couple of failed attempts in the comic book genre as well, that is mentioned a little bit at times as well. The film is violent and has plenty of swearing and inappropriate comments from the very first moment until the very last.

Maybe that is the reason why it has taken me so long to get round to see this? I wasn’t really in a massive rush to see it on release day. The trailers did not make me really want to see it. I like the current superhero formula and just thought this one looked like it was going out too far the other way. My initial thoughts on that from the trailer were right and I did not find myself really laughing throughout the film.

The funniest moment for me when he actually went to the X-Men house and made the comments about only seeing two of them maybe they aren’t allowed to have anymore in. Considering that franchise is all tied up in different deals etc. So I guess I prove I’m more a geek than anything. I went into the film not really expecting to like it and that was probably how I felt watching and afterwards, didn’t really like it. I respect them trying to do something different but it certainly wasn’t for me.

Maybe have just become too sucked into the current state of comic book/superhero films to really get into this one I am not sure? Or maybe this one really is more of a man’s film? I mean some of the jokes and moments certainly scream that, not that it often matters when it comes to comedy moments in films. I cannot really describe very well why I did not enjoy this film but it just wasn’t for me feel like I have to be honest and will massively be in the minority when it comes to reviews and thoughts on it.

I did like who they tried to push the love story side and some of the other posters that they put together could have certainly made some people think it was a totally different type of film all together that was pretty clever. In all honesty as well the love story side is probably a good thing really, does it really matter how you look or your face is changed?
