Jurassic Park (1993) Review

John Hammond has been creating a unique theme park with clones of dinosaurs bringing them to life, know as Jurassic Park. It was never going to run smoothly . . .

After he convinces Dr Alan Grant and Dr Ellie Sattler to come along to the park and endorse it. Although to begin with they actually have no idea what they are letting themselves in for. I do love the way they were like excited children when they actually saw what Hammond had created.

I have to admit that I was very surprised that I had not already reviewed this film as it has to be one of my most watched films of all time. I loved this film as a kid and thought it was just fantastic. So now I am an adult what do I think of this film? Well I think it’s fantastic (still). I actually forgot how tense it is at times and that build up (thanks Steven Spielberg) and that music (thanks John Williams). Honestly that moment they are first waiting at the T. Rex pen, I felt that same level of waiting like it was the first time I had ever seen the film.

Don’t forget though you need a couple of kids in this type of film as well, we get Tim and Lex who are the grandchildren of John Hammond. While we get quite a few screams for Lex (it doesn’t get too annoying) and some great information from Tim who is very much into his dinosaurs. They end up getting very close to Grant who does not seem to have the knack with children, so that’s a nice little side story as they try not to get eaten by any dinosaurs.

I honestly forgot how much not only I love this film but how good it actually is as well. It creates such tension and keeps you well and truly on the edge of your seat. No matter how many times you watch it. Oh I haven’t mentioned Jeff Goldblum yet, through him in for a different mix as Dr Ian Malcolm. A bit crazy but still so amusing at the same time, he adds some comedy and light-hearted moments throughout.

When you think that it was made and released in the early 90s it certainly predicted how big some amusement parks would become and how popular people would find them. So putting a spin on that is a pretty good idea, even now. I don’t think the film feels like its aged massively, probably only when you look at the computers!

Richard Attenborough really makes you want to believe (I guess he’s good with that type of character) and comes across as a pretty good guy as John Hammond. Even if some of his reasons for the park are not fantastic. Although having his grandchildren on a trial run might not have been the best idea in the world, you know just incase something went wrong?

In terms of CGI it was so far ahead of its time this film as the graphics are still good to watch to this day! It really is something else and has to be one of the best films to come out of the 90s easily. I cannot find enough good words to help me with this review as certainly feel like a kid again after watching this film again. I just hope everyone reading this has seen the film already . . .
