After seeing his family killed in front of him Milo becomes a slave and then ends up being a Gladiator using his anger to keep himself alive. He is known as the Celt and taken to Pompeii when a series of events unfold.
If you watch Game of Thrones, I cannot believe if people don’t to be honest. You will know that the main man in this is none other than Jon Snow, and his character is not much different in this film. That is not a bad thing though it’s certainly something that he is good at. He looks like he has bulked up a lot for this role as well, that was very pleasing on the eye. Yes I have gone there, but the first time you see him you notice the muscles!
It has a love story involved as well but that’s not the main focus of the film, which I think is another reason it is very enjoyable. It has some of the best fight and battle scenes I have seen in a very long time, especially with the arena scenes. Milo does not seem to ever make friends with anyone but this changes when he meets the champion Atticus, even though they believe that they will be fighting to the death in a couple of days they understand each other and end up actually helping one another.
I have to admit that I was sick of seeing the trailer for this film at the cinema as it was attached to every film for quite a number of weeks. But I am pleased to say that I enjoyed this film a lot more than I expected too. It really does have a lot going for it and the effects of the volcano erupting really are special. Visual it really is brilliant to watch in that sense.
Kiefer Sutherland manages to be all kind of creepy and evil in the role of Corvus who represents Rome and the emperor. He has everything going on with it and its a slightly different role to what we are used to from Kiefer maybe he is starting to follow in his fathers footsteps?
The ending was not really what I expected but at the same time I actually liked it. A different way to end a film like this and showing how devastating natural disasters can be. It managed to have some amusing moments as well to take the edge off which added to it. So I would give this film a chance as I didn’t actually think it would be very good at all and ended up enjoying it.
I almost forgot about this movie! How dare me, considering that the muscles is what got me interested in the first place (okay, that was shallow, sorry), now I got to go watch it! Thanks!

Haha, I am with you being shallow about that it was certainly a very nice bonus! I think we’re allowed this one as men do it all the time 😉

Hate to phrase it like this, but once the volcano erupted, then things got interesting and actually fun. Only then, really. Good review Caz.

That is a very good point it did take a while for the volcano to erupt!

Nice review, Caz. I too felt the same way about this film. Didn’t expect much going in, but actually ended up being pleasantly surprised in the end.
