Kick-Ass 2 (2013) Review

The second instalment of Kick-Ass a High School teenager who became the first “superhero” and inspired many more people to take to the streets to protect people. After trying to run from Kick-Ass, Dave eventually joins a team who all want to see good rule over evil.

But for that you must remember some of the fallout from the first film and Red Mist wanting his revenge on Kick-Ass for killing his father. Not to mention Hit Girl aka Mindy trying to come to terms with the loss of Big Daddy and being in the care of Detective Marcus. The film takes on two different stories really, until they eventually come together right towards the end when it really matters.

After Mindy eventually realises how dangerous her alter-ego life can be she promises not to be Hit-Girl any longer. She does try very hard to be a normal teenager in High School but that doesn’t completely go to plan when she manages to upset the popular girls in school. Although I have to admit that the sleepover scenes are some of the funniest in the film, just listen to some of the lines! Comedy genius really, although I don’t think a lot of people in my cinema screening seemed to agree.

Meanwhile Kick-Ass is working with a group and when “The Mother F**ker” starts killing people and wrecking things with his evil team everything seems to start going wrong. The police crack down on anyone wearing a mask and try to put a stop to it all. But obviously we must have an epic conclusion and we certainly do get that.

Being a huge fan of comic book films I have found myself thinking that the Kick-Ass films are good entertainment. Don’t forget though they are very violent, graphic and strong language. But I think that’s something that makes it really different and quite shocking when you see how young some of the cast are, that’s also something that makes it good at the same time.

I remember avoiding the first film on its release and when I eventually watched it thought I was stupid for not seeing it. So made sure I was their opening night for part 2. Not quite as good as the first film but still very good and probably one of the most enjoyable films I’ve seen so far this year. You cannot help but laugh in parts and then cringe at the next, I hope you aren’t squeamish with blood as plenty is squirted everywhere in this one!

If you are a superhero fan and want to see what would happen in “real life” then this is the film for you! Ok maybe not real life but that’s the approach of the film. Let’s face it who wouldn’t want to be a superhero???
