This movie is based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. I think its good to have a modern take on Shakespeare plays, as if you study them at any level it can help you understand the meanings that are so often hiden and lost in the ages now. I like the way that this one was done. Plus Heath Ledger is just so adorable in it, and this was probably the movie everyone started paying real attention to him as a one for the future.

Its quite scary that this was released 10 years ago now as it always seems like a newish movie to me, I have no idea why I think that at all. As there is no reason why it should. But anyway, Heath is great and so is Julia Stiles. I really loved her character and how she has a kind of hidden past from her younger sister. Which when it eventually all comes out, it makes there relationship stronger and makes the younger sister realise she was just looking out for her as she did not want her to get hurt at all.
My favorite part of this movie has to be “I love you baby” when Heath dances across the bleachers when Julia has soccer practice. I just think its so cute and romantic and I dare you to find any female who would just love some guy to do that for her at some time in her life. It really is just something that is sweet and makes me smile everytime I watch it. I hate when I miss that bit, it really is the best. Another part I like, is when they go paintballing and have a fight with the paint, I find it so cool.
My favorite quote from this movie has to be:
“I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you’re always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you’re not around, and the fact that you didn’t call. But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.”
I just find that whole part so emontional and how difficult it would have been for someone to get up the courage and speak out the way that Julia did. It really was just so moving and lovely. Especially as she cannot speak for crying towards the end of it and has to run out of the room.
Overall it is a good movie for teenagers, and I think it will be watched a lot in the future when Shakespeare is studied for a modern take on it all.
