Dirty Dancing (1987) Review

The Time of Your Life

In 1963 family holidays at a resort were totally a thing and you never know you could end up with a summer romance!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I must admit that this has never really been one of my favorites, but I do really like it. I watched it again recently and it really is just lovely. I will be extremly sad and admit that I love the music in it, and yes the ending with “Time of My Life” is so corny, cheesy and just darn right cute. Who wouldnt want a summer romance to end with the perfect lift? haha ok so yes summer romances are nothing like the one in this movie. But that is how times have changed. This was set in the 60’s afterall. So if that is how romance worked back then, I would just love to live back then, that would be good times in my opinion.

I think my favorite part of the movie, is the practicing of the lift in the water. Its just something that looks like so much fun to attempt to do (and thats coming from someone who is not a big fan of swimming) but Patrick Swayze lifting me up above his head and being that close to him would make me dive in the water head first without even thinking. Yes this movie is all about how fit and fine Mr. Swayze is. The fact he could dance was just a bonus (and sing, “She’s like the wind” is him singing – theres a movie geek note for you).

But really though he was so physically fit in this movie its fantastic. The fact that they made sure to show him off and not have a shirt on him whenever possible was just great. But how just how did Baby manage to keep her hands off him for so long ?!?! Now that would have been a very difficult task.

This movie does have one of my favorite lines in as I have totally related with it quite recently I suppose so it kinda struck me when I was watching it as I had forgot about it.

Me? I’m scared of everything. I’m scared of what I saw, I’m scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all I’m scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I’m with you.

I just find that quote so deep and meaningful, especially the way that it is used in the movie. She has that whole going to cry tone in her voice and it just makes it even better. I totally love it, its heartbreaking and nice all rolled into one.

Wow, with this review I am starting to convince myself that I love this movie, haha. I guess as you get older you take things differently and now I have a hell of a lot more life experience to compare things too. Never a summer romance like this haha. If only they really exisited !!!

I have actually attempted to do the lift with a group of friends on a night out . . . yes alcohol was involved and yes I was the one who was being lifted, as I had jeans on the rest had dresses, haha. We have photos of the moment but it did not quite work out.

For a movie to actually have people wanting to recreate a part of it, I think that says a lot about the connection between the song and movie. Also for it to be made into a musical on Broadway and the West End also says a lot of the publics love and reaction to this rather simple (I mean that in a nice way) movie.  I do really hate the “nobody puts baby in the corner” line. Its really cringeworthy!
